Well another year has gone by and once again, it has been a rough ride. Although the price of crude has risen above levels seen at the beginning of the year, there is no stability, and despite the recent uptick, our clients are still cutting offshore spending next year over this. Day-rates for rigs are at cash-breakeven or below and a number of our peers have filed for bankruptcy or liquidation in the past year. Of the 16 Gusto P10000 rigs built by Hyundai, only 5 are currently employed on long term contracts, of which 4 are of course our own Blackships. There are still 30 new build floaters sitting in the yards awaiting delivery. And with approximately 44 floaters reaching the end of their contract over the next 12 months, we are going to see rig utilization further track down. A number of our rigs will come off contract over the next 24 months and will be re-contracted at rates that are around a third of where they are today. The Ocean Patriot completed its contract with Shell last month and the new day rate when it returns to work next year is almost ¼ of what it previously earned.
However, we have the best marketing team in the industry and we are working hard to keep assets busy, even if the pricing remains challenged. We are talking to a number of clients regarding both the moored and the dynamically positioned assets. And we have secured an enviable liquidity runway that will somewhat incubate us during this extended downturn. We still have a strong balance sheet and continue to generate positive cash flow. It has been 3 years since oil prices rolled over and we had to tighten our belts. It is likely to be at least another 3 years before we see the benefits of a recovery, but a one thing is for sure, a recovery will come. The executive team spent a significant amount of time this past year working with Rystad, a consultancy who own the largest data vault of worldwide production, and despite the continued growth of renewal energy, the world’s energy needs will not be met without a significant future contribution from deep water production
